Uzbekistan has approved a new procedure for using and maintaining elevators. Building managers must ensure an elevator is serviced at least once a month, and elevator registration and service contracts move to a single electronic platform.
The regulation was approved by Cabinet of Ministers Resolution No. 588 of 22 October 2026. It takes effect on 1 January 2027.
Passenger elevators, regardless of load capacity, may not carry:
The cabin must display, in a visible place, the identification number, registration details with a QR code, and the names, addresses and contacts of the building manager and the service company.
What this means in practice. From 2027, residents of apartment buildings can check more easily whether an elevator is serviced: the QR code and contacts are in the cabin. If an elevator is faulty, contact the building manager. Management companies and homeowners' associations should sign contracts with service companies from the registry and register their elevators on the platform before 1 January. Published summaries of the resolution do not mention fines, so check the full text on lex.uz.
